An article nominated to be merged should not be merged immediately. The purpose of the nomination is to hear the opinions of others. If consensus has been met, or it's believed a sufficient amount of time has passed, then the article is free to be merged. When merging an article, any relevant information should be put into the parent article, blank the page and add a redirect to the parent. If it has been found that an article shouldn't be merged and instead improved, the merge notice should be removed and replaced by an improve notice.
