Engine is a part of a vehicle. It has a great impact on a vehicle's performance, affecting things such as acceleration, max speed, car's loudness, as well as a chance to start the vehicle, and a chance of a vehicle shutting off once moving.

The engine can't be uninstalled or replaced — only repaired, making cars with engines that have great permanent properties very valuable.

Engine properties

Engine condition

  • It shows how damaged the engine is and once below 35% will cause the car to randomly shut off while ignited.
  • Hood will protect the engine, so only when the hood is broken, engine condition will start decreasing from crashing things.

How often an engine shuts off in a minute

Engine condition Shutoff count
100%—35% 0
30%—20% 1
15% 2
10% 3
5% 5
0% 30

Engine quality

  • Engine quality (do not confuse with its condition) is determined on vehicle creation and cannot be raised by any means; it mainly affects chance to start engine and its power.
  • Maximum is 100.
  • Emergency vehicles (ambulance, fire, police) usually have 80-100 engine quality, while others have about 40-60 engine quality.
  • Chance to fail engine start on each try is 30 / (quality + 50)
For example, 65 quality engine has 30 / (65 + 50) = 26% chance to fail start.
  • Engines with 100 quality skips aforementioned check, but still has 1% to fail start due to another one.
  • Engines with quality 65 or less, if the weather is too cold, get an extra chance to fail.

Engine power

  • It determines acceleration and max speed of the car.
  • Measured in hp (horsepower).
  • It can't be changed in any way and is fixed for every car, hp of every car can be found here in Vehicles.
In the same testing environment, Valuline 6 seat with 260 hp reached 60 mph in 17 seconds and max speed around 70 mph, while Valuline Ambulance with 490 hp reached 60 mph in only 4.6 seconds and max speed around 85 mph.

Repairing an engine

  • Repairing engine increases engine condition.
  • Repairing engine multiple times doesn't decrease repairs efficiency in any way.

Requirements

At least one door should be unlocked, or the trunk should be unlocked, or one window should be broken, otherwise clicking at the engine won't show any menus.

You will need at least one spare engine part to repair an engine.

How many percent each engine part adds up to the engine depends on mechanics skill:

Mechanics Level Standard Heavy-Duty Sport
4 1% n/a n/a
5 1% 1% n/a
6 2% 1% 1%
7 2% 2% 1%
8 3% 2% 2%
9 3% 3% 2%
10 4% 3% 3%
For example at level 10 Mechanics 25 spare engine parts will repair standard car's engine from 0% to 100%.

Taking engine parts

  • If the engine is above 10%, its parts can be taken.
  • Requirements are the same as for repairing engine.
  • Higher mechanics level grants more parts.
  • After taking parts, the engine's condition will be set to 0. However, it won't prevent player from repairing the same engine to max condition without any consequences.
