Kate is your wife at the start of the game, she has a broken leg and cannot move. Her only role in the game is as part of the tutorial. She must die in order to continue the game, whether it is by being smothered by a Pillow, burning to death after the house is set on fire, getting shot by your neighbor or killed by you as you cannot sleep if she is not dead after you cook the Pot of Soup.
