Development

Hiatus

Development was put on-hold while leading developers, Lemmy and Binky, assisted developing a new game alongside Dan Marshall from Size Five Games (Zombie Cow Studios at the time). The game was being developed for Channel 4, which was a free sex educational game called Privates. Privates was also being made in XNA, therefore they could cross develop a Xbox Live Indie Games version which could provide some revenue to assist in development of future projects, such as PAWS. However, Microsoft denied the release on Xbox Live Indie Games due to the sexually explicity nature of Privates and the target audience (teenagers 14+).

Cancellation

PAWS was officially cancelled March 11th, 2011 for a number of reasons. Fristly, Lemmy grew to dislike XNA and the direction it was heading. Although it was a lot easier and quicker to work with than what Lemmy had worked with previously, most notably C++, DirectX and Sony hardware. XNA was also limiting in its cross-compatibility, specifically, on Linux and even a variety of PC hardware.

The biggest cause of PAWS being shelved indefinitely, was the lack of revenue and notoriety after the release of Privates, and their development funds had begun to dry up. For a couple of months prior to the cancellation of PAWS, the team of 3 (alongside Nick Cowen) had begun development of a secret project dubbed "Secret Project Alpha Romero" and took guidance from the success of Minecraft. Their new game, after doing a lot of research in programming languages and tools, was being developed with lwjgl, and was later released as Project Zomboid.
