Update to 2.9

Who can edit this page? A lot of things should updated / revised for the current version of the game. The "Useful links" section in particular should incorporate the carpentry guide and other useful apges.

Hey GSC- I edited the Useful Pages a bit to add a link to the guides category and changed the "Maps" description a bit. I am sure there will be more changes to come. Thanks! Pianoman 01:48, 31 May 2013 (BST)

Main Page edits

I just wanted to reiterate that I lowered the Main Page restrictions and edits can now be done by registered users, not just admins. I used to be able to check what was going on several times a day at the PZ forums but that is no longer the case. So, if you see that a new update is out, feel free to edit the download information. You can make other changes as you see fit but please do not add excessive amounts of links to the main page. For the most part I would rather the Main Page be a starting point to broader categories (e.g. guides, maps, moodles, etc..) instead of getting cluttered. If you're eager to make more major changes post a note somewhere about your plans before plowing ahead. Thanks! Pianoman 17:59, 26 July 2013 (BST)

Authors

Wonder if we should split off the contributors to PZ to a link, or an alternative page, rather than trying to keep the growing team credited on the main page? There's the main website as well, which has a listing here http://projectzomboid.com/blog/about-us/. Kirrus 00:15, 11 November 2013 (UTC)

My two cents, or pence I guess - Sounds like a good idea. We could link to the existing pzwiki Indie Stone page which could incorporate what is currently on the main page and/or provide the link to the projectzomboid about-us page. Anybody else, opinions? Pianoman 22:32, 12 November 2013 (UTC)
Sounds good to me :) Connall 23:05, 12 November 2013 (UTC)

Update info!

Russian wiki information very old. Update this!

Update / Revise Items

i think we need to revise the items section to be more intuitive and easier to use. i'm creating a new temp-page with a whole new complete table for all items, sortable of course.

Any accurate information about items, values etc. is helpful (post me a link, then i can append the list with additional info)

Any additional ideas? --Okeer (talk) 20:24, 26 March 2014 (UTC)

There was some discussion on this earlier. Some of the ideas were collapsable tables and item subpages. I think treating the Items page as a go-to list and breaking-off much of the content into subpages / groups of items pages would be the way to go. tinyZed 17:09, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, seems like the way to go. If you guys go ahead on this, send me a link to the test page and I'll take a look. See if it should be rolled into the items page and become the norm. --Connall (talk) 11:30, 29 March 2014 (UTC)

Rough draft for new main page

After a little fiddling with things this is what I got. This is no where near a final product.(note: mainly linking and stylizing formats need tweaking, sizing and scaling also needs tweaking) I'd like to hear some feed back. --Bowlympicshero (talk) 20:38, 27 August 2014 (BST)

It's an excellent update and gives the wiki a good facelift. I'm wondering if we should move the dev team onto a page of their own instead of listing them here? Could even give each a bio and headshot if it's not too grandiose. Plus, by shrinking the intro text box, we can expand the "Play PZ" box's width to shrink the whitespace beneath both boxes. Though I'm wondering if some of that might be caused by my screen resolution (1280x800). Also, I updated the snippet at the bottom, since we aren't using the Main Page Sandbox anymore. As for the Basics/other stuff/Survival Guide/other guides area, I'm curious how that's going to look once all the links are added, only because I worry that the Survival Guide link will look too much like a header. But I'm loathe to suggest a change because I love the look.

My turdtacular gfx card and monitor set up only supports up to 1024x768, which I know is not the norm for most gamers. If you have screenshots that would help a ton. I'm trying to reduce the amount of absolute sizing values and use mainly percentage amounts. However, 33% of my viewport is a lot smaller than 33% of the typical resolution. --Bowlympicshero (talk) 16:39, 30 August 2014 (BST)

I'm going to have to think this over with some people. --Connall (talk) 22:33, 30 August 2014 (BST)

Alright I just had a discussion with EnigmaGrey who I usually like to get feedback from and we came to this conclusion. I must say I do like the look of the Wiki Community and the Play Project Zomboid info boxes, I feel they get a visual upgrade which is quite appealing. The thing is though, there's nothing particularly wrong with column based layouts that the wiki uses currently, they do the purpose they are meant to and with wiki navigation they are usually the best thing to go for. The overuse of Spiffo icons/their size is something we're just not a fan of.

The thing with the current main page is everything fits together beautiful, it's like lego they are all snug, they fit and they connect as if that's the way it should be and always be. It's great in that respect, I don't get that with this main page layout. I feel that some of it fits together while others just feel drastically out of place.

As it stands I would be happy to fold the "Wiki Community" and "Play Project Zomboid" info boxes into the current main page. That's where I'm currently standing on the matter. --Connall (talk) 22:56, 30 August 2014 (BST)

Still trying to iron out things since my max resolution is only 1024x768. The best thing I found out I can do is just change my browser's zoom level. Once I zoomed out and saw all the white space around the Spiffo images, I understood what the complaint was about. What looks clean and sexy from my POV won't always be such from other's. Might have to go back to step one though. Having issues resizing links section after nixing Spiffo images. Trying to assure that all user resolutions will support a clean and streamlined look. I'm personally a fan of the "Play PZ", "Wiki Community", and Banner (Nevermind, zooming reveals issues with the banner as well) sections, but will need to go back to the drawing board for the other sections. --Bowlympicshero (talk) 02:31, 31 August 2014 (BST)

After a lot of trial and error, I believe I have a layout that should be easy to follow in any resolution. I'm not a fan of the rainbow color scheme, but it's to help highlight different areas. Color scheme is still subject to change, but feedback on the layout would be appreciated. --Bowlympicshero (talk) 21:03, 3 September 2014 (BST)

Conferring with a couple of people now with the change. --Connall Project Zomboid Wiki Manager 21:11, 3 September 2014 (BST)

Right so I talked with a few people, we mucked about for a bit and here's the conclusion we were able to come to. Really, it's the same as before. We like certain aesthetic updates to it when separated, but when put together we just didn't like the overall design of it. So the individual elements good, the compiled element just isn't quite right. Especially the navigational elements for the main pages. The column elements has its advantages.

I did a bit of work, and came to this conclusion. This: http://pzwiki.net/wiki/User_talk:Connall#Main_Page is something I would quite happily compile into the main page as is. It's something I'm going to look at doing. So there you go, there's my opinion. --Connall Project Zomboid Wiki Manager 03:53, 4 September 2014 (BST)
