Black sage is a forageable herb used in first aid.

Black sage is primarily used in first aid, reducing pain by 7 when consumed. It is a renewable alternative to painkillers.

It is also a useful alternative to sleeping tablets, for when the character is in too much pain to sleep.

Black sage is a spice when used in cooking recipes, and therefore will not be included in the maximum number of ingredients.

Location

Black sage can only be found via foraging, finding 2-8 at a time. It will never be found unless the player has the herbalist Herbalist trait or has read The Herbalist MagazineFood.png magazine.

Like other plants, black sage cannot be found during winter. It is most common in deep forest, however can also be found in forest, vegetation, farmland and farm zones.

Park rangers will have a massive chance increase in finding black sage, whilst veterans, farmers, chefs, burger flippers, doctors, nurses, fitness instructors and being unemployed will have a small chance increase.

Having the herbalist trait will further increase the chance of finding black sage, whilst having the former scout, hiker, hunter, gardener, outdoorsman, cook, or nutritionist traits will provide a minor increase.

Effective chance calculations are based off of default 'apocalypse' loot settings, with no luck modifier, and average zombie density. The higher the density of zombies in an area, the higher the effective chance of an item spawning. Chance is also influenced by the lucky and unlucky traits. Duplicate entries do exist, but have been removed for clarity.
