Fossoil is the largest chain of gas stations found throughout Knox Country. Fossoil is the parent company of Gas 2 Go, another chain of gas stations. Various Fossoil company vehicles can be found throughout Knox Country. The Riverside and West Point Fossoil stations both have a car wash.

There is a Fossoil stadium called Fossoil Field in Louisville.

Fossoil was one of the original businesses in the early Project Zomboid game, along with Knox Bank, Spiffo's and Seahorse Coffee on the Knox County 0.2.0r map.
Fossoil is probably based on the gas station Sinclair.
In the TV advert, it's mentioned that Fossoil had cleaned the Gulf of Alaska from "their act", which is expanded upon further in the Alaskan Gulf Documentary, calling it "the worst ecological disaster in September of 1989". It can be a reference to the second largest oil spill in U.S. waters, the Exxon Valdez oil spill.
