The Project Zomboid Map Project is an official map project created by Blindcoder and hosted by The Indie Stone. It is using the data from the latest official game version for the latest Knox Country (survival) map as well as the challenge maps, an old Knox County as well as some popular maps from mods.

POI submission

POIs (Point of Interest) are all user-contributed and should also be aligned with the articles regarding them on the wiki when possible.

The purpose of this page is to provide a general style guideline for POI submissions to the Project Zomboid Map Project.

If you have any questions, suggestions or complaints, please leave a comment on the discussion page. Do not introduce or alter guidelines on this page without consensus.

General rules

All POI submissions are subject to moderation. No exceptions. If a moderator deems your POI unfit for inclusion on the map, that decision is final.

POIs are meant to help people navigate the area of Knox Country and possibly other maps available in Project Zomboid. To achieve that, POIs should be

• consistent
  • a hardware store is a hardware store, everywhere.
• spoiler-free
  • as much as reasonably possible, at least.
• neutral
  • it should apply to all players equally, not to you specifically. Use personal POIs for that.
• assigned to the correct area
  • obviously, a Louisville POI doesn't make much sense under "Dixie".

As a general rule of thumb, POIs should not:

• contain spoilers
  • "great base spot!"
  • "guaranteed loot!"
• contain political messages
  • "gun store! murica only! HurrHurr"
• be a duplicate of an existing POI
• contain spelling errors
  • "WAreHOUse" intead of "warehouse"
• contain signatures
  • "submitted by xXxZOMBIESLAYERxXx"

POI names

POIs have two components, a short name which will also appear in the drop-down list in the top right, and a longer description which will show up in the bubble when hovering over the POI on the map screen. The name should be short, concise, and consistent. Please call a hardware store "hardware store", a cinema "cinema" and a post office "post office". If there are three "post offices" already, it doesn't make much sense to add a fourth as "the successor of the Pony Express".

POI description

The description of a POI is a free-text input form, which can further describe this particular POI. You could add the specific name of this "Gas station" here ("Gas-2-Go" or "Fossoil"), add a little description ("Shopping mall with 4 pumping stations out front"), or even include a little funny text ("Beware the shopping dead!" for the shopping mall). Don't go out too far, though. Comments are subject to moderation, and may even be deleted outright.

Post-approval process

First of all, even after a moderator approves your POI, it may still be modified or deleted afterward. Inclusion today does not guarantee that it remains tomorrow.

POIs are regenerated once a day. There are two cache layers in between the actual POI files and your browser, so after approval, it may still take up to 48 hours to actually appear on anyone's map.
