Stable versions

RC 2.9.9 consisted of all versions leading up to, and eventually, the release of Project Zomboid on Steam.[1] Project Zomboid was first released on Steam with version 2.9.9.17 (Build 11) 8th November 2013. Version 2.9.9.17 was the start of the currently used "Build X" naming scheme, and the end of the grief stricken "Release Candidate" (RC) naming scheme.

[New]

  • Added a tooltip on the skill book.
  • You can now light yourcampfire with a literature items (books, newspaper..) and a lighter or matches.
  • Added "dd-MM-yyyy_hh-mm-ss" date format for the name of the save when you create a new game.
  • Added a bindable key to display the FPS in top left corner (default key is "k").
  • Axe, Baseball bat, golf club and sledgehammer are now "two handed weapon", you can still equip them in one hand but it'll be much less effective, and it'll cost more endurance to swing them.
  • Added the Eggplanticus's better menu mod as a mod in the vanilla game (checked by default).
  • Bunch of new sounds from awesome NJ Apostol !

[Balance]

  • Balanced the books XP Multiplier : changed the multiplier to 3/5/8/12/16 from 20 for all levels.
  • Changed the weight of the Bandaids to 0.1 from 0.5.
  • Cooking skill now multiply the hunger reduction when you craft something with food (level 1 = 1.1 multiplier, level 2 = 1.2, etc.).
  • Reduce the unhappy/boredom bonus of cooked food.
  • You can now drill your plank (to make a wood kindle to light your fire) with a butter knife or kitchen knife (previous was only with a screwdriver).
  • Crafted soup can now be rotten.
  • Non-fresh food now reduce the bonus for food by 1.3, rotten by 2.
  • Slightly up the chance to find a hammer inside house counter.
  • Lower the condition of the shovel to 10 from 200.
  • Tweaked a bit the conditions of some weapons (axe/baseball bat are now more resistant, but baseball bat will now be destroyed faster than the axe and other stuff :)).
  • Changed the weight of the golf club to 2 from 4.
  • The stabbing will now generate less noise and less blood splat, go crazy NINJA ! :D
  • Changed weight of gas can to 5 from 10.

[Translation]

  • Added Czech, Danish, Portugese and Dutch translation.
  • Not really a bug but, now "Strawberries" will be spelt correctly :) (I'm pretty sure you gonna miss Strewberry...).
  • Fixed a bug in the Italian translation.
  • Added a message in the console when there's a bug in the translation (displayed in first).
  • Fixed some bugs in the Survival Guide translation on some languages (Survival Guide stop working after some page if your translation had "..." or "=" inside it).
  • Fixed the skill panel with custom translation.
  • Automatically resize the add/remove trait button.
  • Added the health panel to translation stuff.
  • Fixed "save name" width on certains translations.
  • Fixed the Nederlands UI translation.

[Modding]

  • Now use the unemployed spawn point for custom profession if no custom spawn point as been set.
  • Added getters and setters for IsoWindow permaLocked variable.
  • Added event when a new fire is created : OnNewFire.
  • Added setters and getters for Fire : setLife (higher number mean higher fire duraction) / setSpreadDelay (lower number mean spread faster).

  • Fixed a bunch of stuff for modders
  • now your custom *.txt for items will be loaded, so you can overwrite existing items or make new one. It still have to be in mods/yourmods/media/scripts/ (you can add more folders in there)
  • load the custom traits icons. (need to be in mods/yourmods/media/textures/trait_yourtrait.png).
  • Load the custom profession icon (need to be in mods/yourmods/media/textures/yourProfessionType.png).
  • added a require and id field in mod.info. (I'll make a thread about how to use the mod.info).

[Bug fix]

  • Fixed some camping bugs/crash.
  • Fixed a bunch of skill books bugs (never ending books, bug in the multiplier calcul..).

  • A tons of change in the loot spawn:
    • Balanced loots in West Point.
    • Fixed loots on specific rooms (no more bacon in pharmacy, etc.).
    • Added more specific loots in container (wallet in some locker...).
    • Added more specific loots in rooms (toolstore, mechanic...).
    • Fixed some container type (some container wasn't flagged as container).

[Bug fix]

  • Fixed the gunstore windows (now you can't pass through them, neither the zombies).

  • Oh erm. A new control scheme / combat system. As an experiment there is no option for it currently, though we'll add the original back in. We want to find out if this system is more instantly intuitive, since a lot of people have trouble with combat starting the game. Therefore aren't going to tell you how to do it to simulate being new. :P If you hate it, please don't worry, you will have the original option back. What's more important though is we find a control scheme that the majority love that doesn't require an in-depth tutorial to figure out :D

[Bug fix]

  • Fixes to rain barrel loading. Those saves should now load fine.
  • Reduction (hopefully elimination) of crashes, but no guarantees.
  • Various fixes / opimizations
  • Fixed getting stuck at windows.

[New]

  • Added a little icon over the inventory icon if the concerned item is equipped.
  • Survival guide ! Explanation from Will :
    • It's not actually a full tutorial - just text people can read (and Spiffos to go 'daww!' at) to help newcomers while the official K&B tutorial is worked on.
    • It start automatically on a new game, but you can press F1 (default key) to toggle it.
  • Torch can flicker, especially when they're almost run out of batteries.
  • Crawlers won't turn while attacking + Balanced them a bit.
  • New key bindings : F2 to pause, F3 for normal speed, F4 for Fast Forward x1, F5 for Fast Forward x2, F6 for Fast Forward x3.D
  • Double click in any food in your inventory to eat it (more quick double click action coming :)).
  • Double click in any item of the loot inventory to grab it.
  • You now need to equip a bag to put things in it or get weight reduction, on your back or in one of your hand.
  • Destroy furnitures, walls, stairs and almost anything with a Sledgehammer ! (right click then "Destroy").

[Balance]

  • Balanced the zombie density a bit.

[Modding]

  • Lua debugger. We're post instructions on modding forum on release. Hold L-SHIFT when loading PZ to go into debug mode.
    • Default key for debuger is F11, it's bindable in the option.
    • Mac Users need to follow these steps to use the debugger:

[Bug fix]

  • Fixed the zombie kill count.
  • Torch now works properly.
  • Rain now water your plants.
  • Rain collector barrels doesn't share the same amount of water (you can now build multiple rain collector barrels).
  • Fixed crawler attacking through wall.
  • Fixed teleporting crops (again... Now it's all save in java, making the job easier for any modders, and should avoid all this kind of problem).
  • No more "exploding" zombie when entering a new house.
  • Changed the inventory male zombie icon for the correct one.

[New]

  • Added all the Carpentry, Cooking and Farming skill books.
  • Climb sheet rope ! You need at least 2 sheet rope (for 1st floor) and a nail.
  • Added some blood splat when you hit a zombie (less than when he die though).
  • Added wanderer zombie, so they will not just stand still, they have a chance to walk a bit (more chance during rain).
  • Added "ReuseGridsquare" and "LoadGridsquare" event (used for streaming stuff, each grid which disapear throw a ReuseGridsquare, and each loaded LoadGridsquare).
  • Added a hotkey for screenshot (default F12), screenshot are saved in your C:/users/YOU/Zomboid/Screenshot folder.

Carpentry

  • Hitting escape while dragging a ghost item (for example placing a wooden wall...) will cancel it and don't display the menu.
  • You can now rotate (with the "r" button or with the mouse) a self-made wooden crate when you're placing its to change it z position (you can now stack 3 crates).
  • Rain Collector Barrel ! (need 4 planks and 4 nails, recipe will be change when we'll introduce more crafting stuff).

Farming

  • Display an average time for fully grown plant in the farming tooltip.

User-Interface

  • Re-added the star texture near your equipped primary weapon to show the condition of this weapon.
  • Now you can double click on saved game/map/... (list box) to go on the next screen (like if you clicked on "next" or "play").
  • Press enter when typing a name for your saved game will go on the next screen.
  • Added the version nuмber on the main screen (bottom right).
  • Added a "Dangerous Uncooked" warning message on food tooltip if needed.

Last Stand

  • ѕupport multiple challenge for Last Stand.
  • You now need to create a new player for Last Stand, you can reuse it even if his dead (only mouse ѕupport for now, controller will come :-) ).
  • Brand new Last Stand mod (the first Challenge still available).

[Modding]

  • Added "setLocked(boolean)" function on IsoDoor, IsoThumpable and IsoWindow.
  • Stuff for modders I forgot... Well, the modders know :mrgreen:

[Balance]

  • Sleeping will make the panic reduce faster.
  • [Balance] Changed some things on food :
    • Now display "Fresh" on tooltip when the food is Fresh (full hunger reduction, no chance to get ill).
    • "Fresh" will disapear when the "DaysFresh" (item.txt) variable is outdated. (half hunger reduction, some boredom and unhappiness adding, no chance to get ill).
    • And finally "Rotten" when the "DaysTotallyRotten" (item.txt) variable is outdated (same malus as not fresh food, but you can become ill, the texture change to warn you before the tooltip does).
  • [Balance] Re-vamp all the bag to be more realistic (no more 70 weight reduction with a plastic bag).
  • [BALANCE-CARPENTRY] Lower the required materials for some stuff (fence, wall..).

[Bug fix]

  • [UI] Multiple inventory selection fixed.
  • [UI] Better color for background inventory (color change when you select a cold food, etc..).
  • When clicking in inventory while being in "attack" stance will cancel it (no more shooting or attacking in the air while clicking in the inventory).
  • [FARMING] Farming/Camping streaming rewritten to avoid the teleporting crops problem.
  • Time to get wet under the rain increased.

  • No more triggered music if you toggled it off.

  • [CARPENTRY] Added the correct crate icon on self-made wooden crate.
  • Now display the texture of the item if the world item texture is not found when dropping an item on the ground.

[Changes]

  • If pressing hot key weapon buttons (default 1,2 and 3 keys), the best weapon selected won't be equipped if it's the same as your primary hand item.
  • Flashlight/Light source hotkey ("F" by default) will now equip the item found in the secondary hand (instead of primary hand).
  • Quick inventory context button (grab, grab all, drop...) and loot all button will now give you the items in your open inventory (and not always in the main inventory).

[Bug fix]

  • Fixed a bug on the character skills screen (which became buggy if you acquired too many levels).
  • Fixed the duplication of Wet Dish Towel.
  • If your weapon condition goes to 0 (break), it'll be unequipped if no other weapon is found.
  • Fixed selected items highlight when dragging them.
  • Reloaded doors no longer act like walls.
