Metalworking
Metalworking is a skill which allows a player to barricade windows and doors, craft metal structures and containers, and disassemble many metallic objects in the world.

Metalworking Guide
Metalworking in Project Zomboid builds some of the more durable fortifications available, and also allows for the creation of weaponry.
Basic Equipment Required
The equipment needed for Metalworking are as follows:
* Propane Torch (used for construction and deconstruction of items)
* Welding Mask (used for construction and deconstruction of items)
* Welding Rods (used only for construction)
* Propane Tank (used for refilling propane torch)
If your character did not start as a Metalworker, the following are also required:
* Metalworking Magazines 1-4 (used for fortification construction)
* Smithing Magazines<span style="color:red"><sup>Removed!</sup></span> 1-4  (used for weapon construction)
It would also speed up your experience gain in Metalworking if you had the following Skill Books:
* Metalworking for Beginners (Levels 1-2)
* Metalworking for Intermediate (Levels 3-4)
* Advanced Metalworking (Levels 5-6)
* Expert Metalworking (Levels 7-8)
* Master Metalworking (Levels 9-10)
Deconstructing Items
To gain metal bars, pipes, scrap, etc. you will need to deconstruct various items in the world to gain basic metal parts, or find them stored in crates in-game.
To deconstruct items, you will need the Welding Mask and the Welder. Otherwise, the option to deconstruct an item will not appear.
Based on your experience level when deconstructing a fixture in-game, one of three things can happen:
# You will be given the part for the item
# You will get scrap metal for the item (partial fail)
# You will get nothing from the item (complete fail)
The result is dependent on your skill level, and thus the higher the skill level, the more chance of success.
A character will still receive experience even if the deconstruction was unsuccessful.
Items that can be Deconstructed
The following furniture in the world can be deconstructed and provide experience and parts for metalworking: (incomplete list)
* Kitchen Sinks
* Bathroom Skins
* Shower basins
* Bathtubs
* Toilets
* Road Signposts
* Metal fences
* Vending machines
* Metal Kitchen cabinets
* Metal Chairs
* Washing Machines
* Dryers
* Lockers
* Car Wreck
If a skill book has been trained while deconstructing, the XP gain will be far higher and is realistically required as metal furnishings in the world are not common.

Time required while Deconstructing
Basic Requirements
It should be noted it takes a considerable amount of time to deconstruct (and reconstruct) anything relating to metal. You should be careful and wary if zombies are in the vicinity while doing so, as deconstructing something on an accelerated time speed could get the player attacked.
Equipment
* A propane torch and welding mask are required for construction and disassembly.
* Welding Rods are required for construction of items.
* A propane tank can be used to refill propane torches with fuel.

To a non-metalworker player, the following skill books will need to be found in-game to learn the skills necessary to construct specific fortifications.

* Small Metal Sheet
These recipe magazines can be found in bookcases, and also within mailboxes outside of in-game houses.

Getting Started

Before Training

Due to the scarcity of material, if a higher level is desired it's important to maximize XP gain by reading the Metalworking skill books.

Early Levels

Metal barricades can be constructed at Level 0, without reading any recipe magazines or using welding rods. These barricades have much more HP than planks, making them an excellent choice for fortifying windows and doors.

Gaining XP and Materials

Disassembly

With the propane torch and welding mask equipped, objects in the world can be disassembled by right-clicking. Depending on the skill level, one of three things can happen:

 1. Regular materials + scrap metal will be awarded
 2. Only scrap metal will be awarded (partial failure)
 3. No items will be awarded (total failure)

The full experience amount will be given in all cases.

Trivia

 • Metal constructions can be destroyed with fire.
 • Blacksmithing is planned to be implemented into the game, evidenced by the Smithing MagazinesRemoved!, which would be used for item and weapon construction, most likely using the metalworking skill.
