Kate is your wife at the start of the game, she has a broken leg and cannot move. Her only role in the game is as part of the tutorial.

Template:Spoilers She often dies in the tutorial, whether it is by being smothered with a pillow, burning to death after the house is set on fire, or getting shot by a raider looting the safehouse. It is possible for her to survive however, as you can sleep in the kids' room down the hall.
