Electricity is a fuel source in Project Zomboid used to power various appliances.

Electricity is primarily used to power various appliances, lighting, and general life-sustaining resources you'll need if you want to survive.

General Information

At the beginning of the apocalypse, the power grid will be fully operational, meaning you will not need Generator in order to generate Electricity.

However, the power grid will eventually shut down, meaning you will need to find an alternative means of generating power, which is the primary function of the Generator

A tip for beginners is that for the time being when the power grid gives way, food within a refrigerated container will begin to become rotten if they are perishable, gas pumps will no longer provide gasoline without a source of power, and lighting in all forms will be shut off without a source of power.

To not be caught off guard by the power grid failure, it is recommended to listen to the Automated Emergency Broadcast System, as it will give the player a warning before the grid gives way.

Power Usage

Each appliance, light, etc that you connect to a power source has a certain amount of power they consume while operating.

This is not an issue when the apocalypse is first kicking off (since anyone who is coming to claim your electricity bill has other things to worry about) but when the power grid fails, you'll need to rely on a generator, which requires fuel.

If you are powering an area with a generator, right-click on the generator to access the Generator Info tab. There, it will provide a list of what is connected to the generator, the usage of power for that appliance, and how much your total power consumption is.

Each appliance connected to the power source has a different power consumption, as an Industrial Fridge will have a higher power consumption than a Neon Sign.

Quick Tips

To power a generator, you will need fuel, and when the power goes out, gas pumps will no longer provide fuel without a power source. To solve this dilemma, you will need to have a generator to power the fuel pumps.

Burglar Alarms WILL NOT be deactivated when the power grid fails.

Car Batteries can be charged with a Car Battery Charger if they are within a power source.
