The tutorial is the first part of the game, where you are taught some basic concepts of Project Zomboid.

It is later revealed that Kate's leg is broken after the couple had been attacked by looters. After the initial conversation between the two, the player bandages Kate's broken leg and gives her painkillers. Should the player decide instead to skip the tutorial, they may take a pillow from the wardrobe, and smother Kate Smith.
