logos question

how did you make this pohly? It is flat intead of diagonal. Ikip (talk) 14:41, 2 October 2023 (BST)

HitVids logo.png

Hi! I looked a bit in the game files, and somewhere in there were the tiles - might have been in the map editor? need to check at home. Either way, there was essentially the logos of all stores, usually cropped into three or four pieces, and I fiddled them together in GIMP. From the top of my head I don't remember if I projected them afterwards, or if they were already front-facing. I can check if I still have the files once I'm home. Is that remotely helpful? /Pohly Oh also, I think I drew over the GIMP file in Inkscape in order to make it vector graphics. There is some "find boundaries" feature in Inkscape that essentially draws the complete outline, then I just had to fill the colors from the original correctly. /P PS: Found the files on my work computer. The ingame-graphics are rotated, I projected them within GIMP, then made a vector outline in Inkscape.

thank you. i have been adding all the logos from the game files as rotated.
for example:

you wrote:
"I projected them within GIMP, then made a vector outline in Inkscape." what is a vector outline, is that how they appear flat? Ikip (talk) 18:31, 2 October 2023 (BST)

I think I see what you mean. No, so, the "flatness" comes from essentially "projecting" the logo in GIMP / Photoshop. You take the logo and essentially try to "skew" it until it looks roughly right. I did this more or less by hand and until I felt it was right.

The vector part is only because the game-files didn't have a great resolution as far as I could see. The vector outline is done in Inkscape, as a result it converts the pixelated image into a scalable vector graphics that can be enlarged to your hearts desire. I then save a higher-resolution PNG which is what is uploaded to the wiki. Would it help you if I made a video tutorial? /P

yes thank you! that would be very helpful. I appreciate your time. Ikip (talk) 19:42, 2 October 2023 (BST)
So I've tried to make a screen recording - Link to video (remove the whitespace before .be) : https://youtu .be/29ZULSS6gvk - I don't know if this is helpful but it's an attempt. If anything is unclear don't hesitate to ask. I haven't done the inkscape step because it might be over the top, and is somewhat difficult for the example you posted. I can make another video about that if you feel you want to try that as well. --Pohly (talk) 08:50, 3 October 2023 (BST)
Zomboid Wiki - Straightening signs GIMP Tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29ZULSS6gvk brilliant! thank you! very informative! Ikip (talk) 21:34, 3 October 2023 (BST)
I shared your video with both admins and another user. thanks! Very useful! Ikip (talk) 21:43, 3 October 2023 (BST)
Glad it's helpful! I took the liberty of uploading that version to replace the old one. Again, let me know if you want to do Inkscape - I found that it's maybe not necessary to do that every time, unless you're the perfectionist type *cough*. And yes, of course it can be shared. Let me know if there's anything else I can help with ;-) --Pohly (talk) 21:46, 3 October 2023 (BST)

Barnstar

Project Zomboid Barnstar Hires.png The Project Zomboid Barnstar
For his tireless work on images and making this wiki rock, this barnstar is awarded to Pohly. Ikip (talk) 23:12, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
Feel free to change the ghastly spiffo that is already there, to another one, anyone you wish. See Category:Barnstars for the original barnstar, which you could use as the background. :) Ikip (talk) 23:13, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
Hey! Thanks for reaching out. Just so that I understand, are you asking me to a) make whatever star I want for myself (only), or b) make a nicer-looking version of this star for general usage? I am assuming now it is the latter case, but just to make sure I don't sink time into something that I'm not asked for.... ;-) --Pohly (talk) 08:56, 21 November 2023 (UTC)
Poly you da man. Yes, to replace this barnstar, the later (2nd one). Ikip (talk) 13:01, 21 November 2023 (UTC)
Alright. How about this one? There is so many Spiffos out there - I chose apocalypse now, but there is other fitting ones, say the judge or the one reading a book...open for suggestions. PS: i added also a "Wanderer" Spiffo... --Pohly (talk) 13:46, 21 November 2023 (UTC)

Barnstar

This very first working man's barnstar is awarded to Pohly. You are brilliant! Ikip (talk) 19:59, 23 November 2023 (UTC)

admin barnstar- can you take out the wikipedia logo and replace with spiffo?

File:Admin Barnstar.png The Admin's Barnstar
This first Admin's Barnstar is awarded to Faalagorn for his tireless and incredible efforts on Project Zomboid Wiki. Ikip (talk) 22:47, 20 November 2023 (UTC)

Ikip (talk) 06:57, 26 November 2023 (UTC)

would this be possible? I can do it on photoshop or gimp but my dead mothers computer is ultra slow. Ikip (talk) 20:08, 27 November 2023 (UTC)
Hi ! Sorry yes that is possible, I'm just not always available the same day. I need to see when I find time, sometimes it fits, sometimes it don't. I might find time today though, I will get back to you (I am assuming that it's not a life-or-death matter of urgency). --Pohly (talk) 08:56, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
So, I made two versions now. You can see if you like any of them. A classic one (in similar style to the original Wiki one), and one that I would prefer with Spiffo holding the mop-thingy. Let me know. Otherwise I can try something else. --Pohly (talk) 14:25, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

Spiffo Admin small.pngSpiffo Admin Alt small.png

I think the second one is better, also, do we need two versions for those barnstars? I guess one would suffice, we never went from regular to high-res as in Wikipedia. —Faalagorn/ 22:05, 30 November 2023 (UTC)
So, no, we do not need two versions, my thought was to give Ikip two options to choose from: The one he requested, and the one I thought looked better. Afterwards, the "losing" candidate can be deleted for all I care. In that case, I'm sorry for spamming the Wiki with files, maybe I should send this over discord next time instead. --Pohly (talk) 08:46, 1 December 2023 (UTC)
second is better. I just copied what they had on wikipedia. we are not paying to have more. Please dont erase. Ikip (talk) 05:42, 1 December 2023 (UTC)
I will only download one copy of admin barnstars, unless they are radically different. I replaced the one where the mop is floating with the one wear spiffo is holding the mop @User:Faalagorn thanks! Ikip (talk) 07:56, 1 December 2023 (UTC)

congratulations! your excellent edits were mentioned at The December Newsletter! Keep up the great work Pohly. Please join us on Discord, (link to the left) at PZwiki_edit group. Ikip (talk) 21:17, 3 December 2023 (UTC)

hope you are good man. Ikip (talk) 21:17, 3 December 2023 (UTC)

Yo! Thanks I am fine. Feel's like I'm drowning in awards and mentions, but of course it is appreciated. I am in fact in the discord channel but since I'm currently somewhat inactive and mostly give GIMP/Photoshop-advice I haven't felt compelled to write a lot lately. Hope that's okay! :-) --Pohly (talk) 21:23, 3 December 2023 (UTC)
better to be over appreciated then under appreciated ;-0 Ikip (talk) 16:01, 6 December 2023 (UTC)

Barnstar page

Various awards can be given to editors on PZwiki on their talk pages.

The first concept of awards was introduced by Connall in September 2014, as awards that are similar to Userboxes, which was brought back in July 2018 by Vaileasys along with the userboxes and community projects, but never really caught up. Then the dedicated barnstars were introduced to PZwiki by Ikip in November 2023, before finally being changed to general awards in early 2024.

How to give an award

To give someone an award, copy the syntax found in the What to type with a message explaining why it was given into the talk page of the user, signing it off with your signature and the current timestamp.

If you want to rename an award, you can do so by adding a pipe | and writing a new name, the award name will be replaced by it.
