Development roadmap towards full release as of January 2022

Build 43 is an upcoming update for Project Zomboid focused on adding the first stage of non-player character, originally present in a simpler version and then removed in the early versions of Project Zomboid.

Main features

Note: Most of these features have only been stated to be in the planning stage and might be removed or changed to another stage of the NPCs

NPC "metagame"

Set to bring in a metaverse (the developers plan to use a different name for this feature because of a certain 'Zuck' fellow.) This will be familiar to the current metagame, and this will allow for events and narratives to occur to the Survivors with or without. The player's inclusion allows for a more immersive, randomized story to always be achieved.

An (loosely) involved story to the game contracted to the lore around the Knox Event

Minor features

Note: Most of these features have only been stated to be in the planning stage and might be removed or changed to another stage of the NPCs

The ability to drive vehicles and/or drive around vehicles controlled by other NPCs and actual players.
The ability to explore and interact with the in-game map.
The ability to interact with the player and NPC survivors.
