==Recommendations==
Of course, what traits you pick are your choice, but some are more useful in certain situations than others. For instance, being "strong" will enable you to carry more items and hit a little harder, making it better for hauling trips while "light eater" is good for saving up your food supply.
So if you plan to live for a rather monotonous but long time (measured in years), light eater and athletic are essential.
If you plan on living for an exhilarating but a medium amount of time (measured in months), you should get strong while trading light-drinker and short-tempered.
If you want to go in guns blazing, the lucky trait gives you a better chance to amass more firepower.  Make sure to loot dead zombies when you can, as with this perk they tend to drop somewhat rare items such as pistols, axes, pistol ammo, and medicines such as beta blockers.
To be more specific about loot, lucky adds 1.0 to all loot chances. For comparison, a lot of items are 1-4 in loot chance, some 0.5, and the rare ones 0.1 (nothing lower is possible without additional modded coding). Adding 1 to everything basically increases the chances of getting rare loot by 1000%, uncommon loot by 300%, and very common loot gets decreased a bit. It is not recommended that a character takes:
# Deaf- Cannot hear. Leads to a swift death from behind. Your character may set off a burglar alarm and attract a hoard without knowing. (+12)
# Clumsy- Make more noise while moving. Attracts too many zombies, not worth the skill points. (+2)
# Unlucky- More likely to get bitten, get an infection, cut one's self on a broken window, etc. Doing ANYTHING can kill you. (+4)
# Illiterate- Cannot read books. Reading is the easiest way to gain skill and reduce boredom/unhappiness. (+8)
# Agoraphobic/Claustrophobic- Become panicked outside/inside. Characters usually spend an equal amount of time indoors and outdoors, restricting one's self to be in only one form of space is too much of a handicap. (+4 each)

Traits

Traits are modifiers, positive and negative, available to player. Some traits are chosen individually (indicated here as 'positive' and 'negative' traits) and players are also given one or more traits, also known as occupation perks, associated with his/her choice of occupation.

The individually-chosen traits must have a sum value of 0 (or less) in order to start the game, so if the player chooses positive traits, they are also required to choose negative ones to compensate.

Traits categorized as "opposites" cannot be taken simultaneously (e.g. "Graceful" and "Clumsy").

Occupation-oriented traits (perks) cost no points, but the player must select one (and only one) occupation.
