You all probably noticed a new skin when logged out, as we changed the default to 2022 variant of the old Vector skin, as this is the skin we'll focus the most with improvements. You can still change to any of older skills including Vector legacy (2010) in Preferences if you like the old one, but expect some changes in the nearest feature, especially the background one, as we're preparing to move to the new header.

We've also added the Wiki spirit section to the rules page, as we had some minor disagreements, but it seems to be all solved thankfully, but it's great to remember what the wiki is about, coopration on bringing something great together!

January 2024(4 February 2024)

Welcome everyone to the summary of the first whole month of 2024! Now that we're deep in 2024, I archived all the 2023 monthly summaries to the 2023 archive, and changed the header names so they refer more to what the news were about. Hopefully for 2024 we will have a full 12 of the monthly summaries, with all the project summaries started in late 2023!

Despite some minor setbacks, this month was again much productive, let's start with the projects summary.

Project Electricals and Transmission

First off, let's congratulate to Calvy for manning up and bringing the final push for Project Electricals and Transmission and everyone else for contributing! The next in line will probably be Project Spiffo's Construction Crew, good to have another project closed, pushing focus to other ones and opening room for potential new ones in the future!

Project Build 41 Update

Project Build 41 Update again saw much love, thanks from the combined effort of Angostura, some minor additions by Stabbyson, Absolute Lambda updating missing items, Calvy's massive work, and Vaileasys hard work elsewhere, as well as everyone else contributing anything minor – you all probably saw the new infoboxes, codeboxes, models, as well as version updates – it's hard to close it totally just yet, especially as it intertwine so closely with other projects, and side activities, but it is close enough to be taken out of the everlasting site notice, combined with inability to translate it reliably and taking some space, especially with the new skin improvements (more about it below). I may also be the one trying to push it forward in the coming weeks, probably taking it off Vaileasys's shoulders (who's busy with Project Navigation and Categories and some template works, currently focused on adjusting new infoboxes and skins, which you probably noticed already), after our brief discussion for those following us on the official Discord server.

Project Locations and Maps

It's hard not to mention Project Locations and Maps without a great dose of admiration how much dedication is being put into updating it, here's the summary from the project leader, ThinkDock1721!

Hi all, ThinkDock here. While there were a few heated debates and some speed bumps along the way, January was a monster of a month for locations and maps! Here's a quick summary:

First off, I want to give an enormous thanks to Calvy for willingly tackling Louisville. It's quite the juggernaut, but they've managed to not only make a table with all the businesses, but also began the arduous process of elaborating on all the businesses so they're no longer stubs! There will be some cleanups required as always, but it's a monumental effort for just one person to take on. Thank you so so much!

Our long-time contributor Ikip categorized almost all of the location pages, and also helped out with some minor edits here and there. Thanks!

We also had some minor edits and small contributions from the following users:

Thanks everyone!

I personally completed my project of finishing all the spawn towns, managing to get all of both Muldraugh and West Point done this month. (Late nights galore!) I also restructured the project page a bit.

As for the plan for the future, with Ikip categorizing all the locations themselves and Calvy tackling most of Louisville, I'll be free to do some collaboration with the folks at PZWiki:Project Navigation and Categories to categorize all the images and business logos that were missed by the bots.

After that, It'll be on to the minor towns of March Ridge and Valley Station, and then off to Louisville for some cleanups!

However, once that's done, I'll be steering the project more towards challenge maps, site maintenance, and minor tasks until build 42 arrives with the new towns we all desperately want. It will be updated on the job board once I have all the ideas and tasks worked out.

That's just me though, feel free to use the project's talk page or the discord to discuss ideas! See you all next week!

(please help it's 2:48AM right now and I have work at 7AM, I haven't even slept and I'm on for a 10 hour shift please help)

Hopefully ThinkDock will be able to get some rest though, especially we're on the right track starting a collaboration with Blindcoder to bring updates to POIs on the epic official map up to date with the ones done in the wiki – we'll start with making the Project Zomboid Map Project page updated and more visible, so more people can contribute to both the wiki and map project, which will be more than important after build 42 which is tentatively scheduled for the hopefully first half of this year in IWBUMS, which seems quite soon™.

Also, while minor, thanks to Missold for contributing description for Dentistry, Perfk for contributing one missing location for Wrecking yard, Chomasyean8 contributing some bits Louisville border camp, and Insp175 for adding note for the Kentucky State Prison page – those bits help too, thank you!

Project Modding

Project Modding sadly continues to be a tad neglected and most likely won't see a big push/update and stay open way past build 42 (which will surely bring a lot of modding updates!), though it's understandable most of the editors want to focus on adding content and modders do their job, but there were some minor additions nevertheless:

As always, thank you even for the tiniest contributions!

Project Navigation and Categories

Project Navigation and Categories finally saw the amount of work needed this time, thanks to the hard work of Vaileasys – while not yet finished, we expect it being finished soon. There's a brief summary of the works from Vaileasys.

Categories

The category project has finally received some major progress. We have the category tree mostly completed and have implemented almost every category, with just some items left. The big ones left are "Equipment/Tools", "Materials" and "Clothing". As part of this project, we're also adding the new header and page version templates.

Minor changes

We've added "show/hide" to the navbox, making it easier to know how to expand it, for inexperienced readers (also autotranslates). Body location template for clothing is now smaller and removed borders/headers from table.

Vaileasys work was split between this and other templates, and people are slowly moving to help with this project, so hopefully we'll see it finally done really soon!

Project Seat Yourself Furniture

Project Seat Yourself Furniture sadly didn't see contributions – I still want to get back to it eventually, but due to time constrains, I already mentioned it on Discord briefly, so if anyone want to take leadership here, let me know! I'll gladly help with starting things up adding and updating the tiles!

Project Spiffo's Construction Crew

Project Spiffo's Construction Crew saw some great work by Calvy – Calvy is busy with other tasks, but depending on HakunaWhiskey plans, we might push it forwards to close before Project Build 41 Update officially closes, as it seems to be much doable, we'll see!

Project Translations

And finally, Project Translations – big behemoth to coordinate, Vibrance is waiting for the translation extension bundle to be tested by Kirrus, no solid ETA though, so we'll see, as the whole project may need reworks, so it's better wait with major changes. However, there's been some new translators popping and a lot of work done. Let me summarize

Afrikaans

So far it's TungstenX translating some pages at the beginning of the month, but hopefully they will return for more!

Simplified Chinese

 • KcFuture continuing to contribute some translations.
 • Obiwan joining to contribute a lot of new translation, utilizing the existing templates in place.
 • Auncer contributing some fixes for 诺克斯事件 page.

Traditional Chinese

A little less up to date than the Simplified one, it also saw updates thanks to the A41133tw adding solid translation throughout the month, thank you!

French

French saw much love this month, thanks to two great contributors, Quentinlamamy and Dietrich, thanks!

German

German didn't see much translation this month, but thanks to Edgarogg Muldraugh is now translated, thanks!

Korean

Atlas7 mentioned on their talk page, that they are awaiting a child and taking a break from translations – first of all congratulations! It's understandable taking the break and thank you for announcing it, too!

Polish

Polish saw two new contributors joining and doing minor works, Matt Morgan and Jake Williams, thank you!

Brazilian Portugese

Brazilian Portugese saw some useful translations thanks to Silocorb

=Russian

While, Mark returned, they seems to only accidentially bring back the old revision of a page.

Spanish

Spanish saw three contributors adding various translation, Valiko2023 who joined us some time ago, but mostly Kesosdev doing much work this month as well as ANGIELTOR translating Nutrition/es.

Turkish

Turkish seems really healthy thanks to the epic work done and continue to be done by Ksilem, but also Mabik and Counterr90 contributing, great work guys!

Ukrainian

Ukrainian saw some new work too, by a long-stanging NeGat1FF, but also newly-joined Bayon558 as well as Astrelsba, though accidentially putting it on the wrong page (though let's home that won't be deterring!).

I also updated some of the main pages, you can see the progress for remaining ones on Project Translations under each language headers (click them to see), at the moment of writing only 5 languages not being updated to the new format and some still requiring translations, but all are marked accordingly.

There was also some changes fore the Discord tooltip, following the re-addition of Discord to sidebar as it's no longer present in the site notice, so you may want to check your translations there!

Other important works

You all probably noticed a new skin when logged out, as we changed the default to 2022 variant of the old Vector skin, as this is the skin we'll focus the most with improvements. You can still change to any of older skins including Vector legacy (2010) in Preferences if you like the old one, but expect some changes in the nearest feature, especially the background one, as we're preparing to move to the new header.

We've also added the Wiki spirit section to the rules page, as we had some minor disagreements, but it seems to be all solved thankfully, but it's great to remember what the wiki is about, coopration on bringing something great together!

I also updated the Administrators page to list both me and Vaileasys as equal, so do contact us if you have any question / problem to solve first, Kirrus being mostly for the technical side. If you encounter any problem on Discord, especially the one we can't solve there or when we're not around, do contact the Spiffo bot to get through our awesome moderators there, they prove to be helpful if things arise!

One of the important new pages, you may have not noticed that was deeply researched is the Easter eggs – there's been also some updates to the The Indie Stone, thanks to the awesome works done by LethalCitizen, but also help from people around Discord, including Kirrus, Angostura and Calvy, so make sure to check the Easter eggs page up, it's also linked on the main page.

Also, Darkonion5 created the new Foraging items page, originally on their talk page, it seems nice for foraging that we will see some cleanups following the hopefully soon™ skill page updates.

The here's the summary of other stuff from Vaileasys:

Infoboxes

For a while I've been working on consolidating all the item infoboxes, as it was confusing for editors to know which infobox to use, and a pain to maintain/update each time a new version of the game was released that changed and added something, but was shelved in September 2023.

Early this year, Vibrance created a new infobox metatemplate suite, which improves the previous process of creating an infobox, along with changes to the styling which compliments other stylistic changes we've been making, and collapsible sections. The biggest feature though, is the ability to click on the icon and display the associated model for the variant.

Many infoboxes (not just items) have already been changed to this new one, however there's still quite a few to go, along with adding the model variants to the infobox. I'll also be working on more infoboxes, such as tiles/furniture, moodles, traits, skills, and any others we may have a need for.

The item infobox isn't ready to be translated yet, but I'm working on that on its sandbox. Any of the infoboxes that are ready to translate, will have the Translation guide section on it (same goes for any templates).

Minor fixes

As always, here's a list of contributors doing minor fixes, that accumulate to our bigger project, thanks!

Hopefully no one is missed, and make sure to check Active users list for an up-to-date list of users being active in the last 30 days!

Affiliates

Still currently with one but stable affiliate, the Independent Fallout Wiki celebrates it's first anniversary, here's the warm words from Kate Aces, administrator of the Independent Fallout Wiki.

Hooray! We released our Annual Report and celebrated our 1 year anniversary! That is about all from us. Can't wait to see the new summary!

If you are fancy from PZwiki editing break, and are in a Fallout mood, make sure to check them out!

Future works

First, a note from Vaileasys.

Future

Going forward I'll mostly be continuing with infoboxes and categories. I also have a few plans for new/updated templates, such as:

If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

Some work also needs to be done to reduce the width of some tables, which will increase the use of icons in the heading, along with a guide to the meaning of the icons, which will be especially helpful for mobiles users that can't see the tooltips.

If time permits, I'll also be taking a deep dive into the changes coming in build 42, to hopefully be more prepared for its release.

As far as I go, I'll mostly be continuing patrolling changes and focus mostly on Project Build 41 Update from now on.

Till the next month! —Faalagorn/ 15:50, 4 February 2024 (UTC)
