Deaf is a negative trait.
Overview
This trait removes all sound for the player. It gives 12 points and can be selected during character creation.
Effects
- Can't hear sound.
Radio chatter will not appear above the radio, thus also the Automated Emergency Broadcast System, the only radio station lasting until infinity. However, a player can see/read a TV due to closed captions, which are currently present in all types of TVs including the antique ones and benefit from skill and effect bonuses from Life and Living TV and VHS fully. Deaf players, however, can hear all the multiplayer messages, including the voice and written ones, this might be a bug.
A deaf player cannot wake up from the alarm and can sleep even while the alarm is active. A player cannot hear the burglar alarm as well, thus not being able to detect to that they triggered it, until zombies start heading towards the place in large numbers. However, background music can still be heard. Sounds like the jumpscare sound can also still be heard. Strangely, ambience (such as rainfall) can also still be heard.
Surprisingly, deaf players have the same perception radius as normal hearing.
In a split-screen game, it is possible for one player to take the trait and enjoy 12 extra points while still hearing what other player see.
