The Crossroads Mall is a large indoor shopping center, located in Valley Station.

Overview

The Crossroads Mall is one of the biggest and loot-rich locations in Knox Country, but also one of the most dangerous due to its large zombie population. The mall's parking lot is one of the best places to salvage parts from vehicles due to it being one of the largest parking lots in Knox Country. The windows next to all three of the main entrances are reinforced by shutters, creating chokepoints where zombies must bunch up in order to get outside. These can be exploited with the use of fire, see this section for details.

It is not recommended to attempt to clear this location without significant preparation beforehand.

Strategy

It is not recommended to attempt to clear this location without significant preparation beforehand. Be sure to bring several good weapons, repair materials, and lots of ammunition.
The windows next to the entrances are protected by shutters, which cannot be destroyed by zombies. However, the doors can. This creates a choke point that the zombies must pass through to exit the mall. This choke point can be exploited by placing and lighting campfires at the doors, and using an emergency vehicle adorned with sirens to lure the zombies through the doors and into the fire. However, this has a very high chance of collateral damage, as burning zombies are able to set the ground or the mall itself on fire.
It is strongly recommended not to rely solely on melee weapons, as the large amounts of zombies can easily exhaust and overwhelm the player, regardless of how strong they are. Characters with low fitness should avoid attempting to clear this location.
Due to the mall being a very open space, firearms can be extremely useful in dealing with large groups of zombies. shotguns are typically the most effective. The use of long range firearms is not recommended due to their slow fire rate and lengthy reload times.
The use of Fire Bombs and molotovs is not recommended, as this risks burning down all the valuable loot in the mall.
If the player becomes exhausted, there are furniture stores that have chairs and sofas to rest on.
Have an escape plan at all times, Zombies can easily surprise the player from unexpected angles.
Clearing this location can be a multi-day task. The player should be prepared as such.

Trivia

There are two non-functional ladders located on the mall's roof.
Crossroads Mall is a reference to the name of the mall in the 2004 movie Dawn of the Dead.
