Stars & Stripes is a army surplus store located exclusively within The Grand Ohio Mall in Louisville. For survivors, Stars & Stripes is not just a source of weaponry but also a strategic location due to its position in the mall.
Overview
The interior of Stars & Stripes is divided into three primary areas:
- The front display section, which showcases a range of weapons and gear. There is a tent, ham radio, cashier's counter, and many containers and display shelves.
- The storage room, which also acts as a transitional space, offering doors to the back display section, the main front room, and the back hallway of the mall. Contains many containers and shelves which house the store's back stock.
- The back display section, which is sealed off by fences and can only be accessed via the storage room. This section contains some of the more valuable items inside glass display counters, as well as another cash register, a display shelf, and a display for magazines containing literature and maps.
Of the three doors within the store, two are robust security doors. Gaining access through these might require a key, or resort to brute force with the use of a sledgehammer, or through dismantling. The door leading to the back display section, however, is a standard door without the enhanced security features, which may be easier to manage.
While Stars & Stripes is a notable source of weapons and equipment in Louisville, players should also consider other prominent locations like Ready Prep Army Issue Surplus and the Louisville Police Department and Detention Services. Both of these places also offer an array of weaponry, ammunition, and protective gear.
Location
Stars & Stripes is located on the first floor of The Grand Ohio Mall, on the far North side. It is located next door to Hair O Genesis and Sheba Jewellers.
The main entrance of the store, facing the mall corridor, is fortified with fences, making direct access challenging. Two breakable windows provide an alternate entry. However, using them is risky due to the high concentration of zombies in the mall area. These windows can also be used by zombies to get inside. For safer access, it's recommended to use the store's back entrance, accessible via a tunnel from the rear side of the mall. This entrance leads directly into the storage room, significantly reducing the risk of attracting the attention of zombies, and offering a stealthier option while looting.
Loot
The store has an abundance of both firearms and melee weapons, as well as its stockpile of ammo, armor, and other crucial survival supplies.
Safehouse potential
Like all buildings in Louisville, the high density of zombies and low availability of water means the player's chances of survival are lower than in other areas. Using this location as a safe house should be seen as a challenge, as living in Louisville is not recommended for new players.
