A fishing rod is a crafted fishing tool or improvised weapon.

Usage

Fishing

Main article: Fishing

A fishing rod requires some kind of bait, such as fishing tackle or worm. The player can fish by walking up to a body of water, right-clicking on it and selecting the "Fishing" option. Fishing lines can also sometimes break and need to be replaced.

Weapon

The fishing rod can hit up to 2 enemies at a time (with multi-hit enabled), dealing a maximum of 0.3 damage to enemies (unless a critical hit) from up to 1.55 tiles away at an attack speed of 1.3.

Crafting

To craft a fishing rod, the player must have picked either the "Fisherman" occupation or "Angler" trait during character creation. Otherwise, it will be available after reading Angler USA Magazine Vol. 1

Condition

While fishing, the line can break, leaving a sturdy stick, and will need to be crafted again. This is unrelated to the durability of the item, where the rod/stick will break, rather than the line.

The fishing rod has a maximum condition of 3, with a degradation rate influenced by the long blunt and maintenance skills. The chance of losing durability can be simplified to the following formula: 1 in (1 + maintenanceMod × 2). Where "maintenanceMod" is calculated using the long blunt and maintenance skills.
